The History of Fremont Beef

Located in the City of Fremont, Nebraska, FBC is a food processing company that was established in 1989 through a joint venture between S-Foods and Marubeni, two publicly traded companies on the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The company had a unique approach to processing beef and beef offals in the U.S. before freezing  them and exporting them to Japan. They used a -40-degree blast freezer and wind tunnel to freeze the products, resulting in a high-quality end product that meets Japanese standards.

In 1995, FBC expanded its facility due to the increase in demand for its products. However, in 2003, the U.S. market was affected by BSE, and all beef exports to Japan were stopped. As a result, FBC's product line came to a halt, and Marubeni sold its share of the company to S-Foods. The company was then able to pivot to mostly pork processing, which remains the primary product produced by FBC.

As the U.S. beef exports rebounded and the pork export market demand soared to all-time highs, FBC expanded its facility again in 2015. The new facility is state-of-the-art and includes a low-charge safe ammonia system, detailed facility temperature control, and expert logistic and product quality management. This has resulted in a world-class processing environment that is unmatched in North America.

FBC is committed to seeking new opportunities to expand into new product offerings and develop new business relationships.
